Susan Higgins

SH_portrait_2011.JPG

Susan’s glass art depicts natural themes inspired by the forest setting of her lakeside studio.  Her primary technique is fused or kiln-fired glass.  Coloured glasses are cut, composed in layers, and melted together in a kiln to create colourful bowls, platters and window panels.  Some of her work incorporates silhouettes cut from thin sheet copper, sandwiched between layers of glass.

Susan is also accomplished in leaded stained glass, and has worked in this medium for 30 years, completing hundreds of windows. Commissions are considered in both fused and stained glass.

A career craftsperson, Susan studied drawing, painting and design at the Ontario College of Art and Design.  Her work is available at The Shutterbug Gallery in Huntsville Ontario. You can visit the studio by appointment or during the Muskoka Autumn Studio Tour, September 24 & 25.  She's also a guest artist at the Apsley Studio Tour, north of Peterborough ON.
