Jerry Friedman

Friedman_portrait_red.1.JPG
Jerry is a long-time cottager on the sandy shores of Bella Lake. His interest in driftwood sculpture began when he discovered unusual driftwood emerging from the sand on his beach.  He can often be spotted paddling his canoe into the quiet bays on this lovely lake, exploring the shallows for raw material to transform into sculptural pieces.

Jerry cleans and sands the weathered wood he finds, bringing out the shapes and images he sees within each piece.  The application of an oil finish enhances the shape and highlights the grain of the wood. Finally, the finished sculpture is mounted for wall or tabletop display.

"The driftwood artist does not sculpt – the artist enhances the living spirit of the wood."
Margaret Lawrence, Driftwood Sculpture.

Visitors to Jerry’s cottage studio during the tour have the opportunity to sand their own small piece of driftwood, and see what emerges.

Julie Waterhouse - photography
Julie resides in Markham, just a short drive from the farmland and woods she loves to photograph. Her work is focused on two themes.
